Military Spouse Small Business Recognition Act

PCS moves. Career gaps. Limited access to capital. If you’re a military spouse running a business, you already know the challenges—and the data backs it up. Military spouses face the highest unemployment rate of any group in the country (approximately 22%), and one of the biggest barriers to entrepreneurship is access to funding.

That’s why on May 7th, the Military Spouse Chamber of Commerce is heading to Capitol Hill to advocate for the 🌟 Military Spouse Small Business Recognition Act 🌟—a critical bill designed to formally recognize military spouse entrepreneurs and expand access to capital and resources through the SBA. This bill aims to formally recognize and assist our military spouse business owners in obtaining access to capital and support.

This legislation would help level the playing field by recognizing military spouse-owned businesses as an SBA disadvantaged category. Not because military spouses represent one specific demographic — we represent them all — but because we serve and sacrifice in support of our nation.

Military spouses face the highest unemployment rate in the country, carrying an estimated annual cost to taxpayers of $700M–$1.2B. Yet every day, military spouses continue launching, building, and growing businesses. For too long, the focus has centered on traditional employment paths while military spouse entrepreneurship has remained largely overlooked. It’s time for that to change.
